Army Lodge, Ft. Benning Georgia

GSB and Hardin Construction teamed to create this design/build design proposal for an 860 key lodge to be located on the Ft. Benning Army Base in Ft. Benning Georgia.  The 860 keys include 740 extended stay rooms, 60 standard rooms, and 60 suites.  The design includes lobby and registration areas, kitchen and breakfast area, conference and multipurpose rooms, guest storage, and administrative offices all within an arrival pavilion located in the entry court.  The base architecture is a spanish mission style of stucco walls and clay tile roofing.  To be sensitive to the neighboring residential community, the height of the building was limited to a maximum of five floors.  The design layout creates two major courtyards with the arrival building in the front courtyard and the more private hotel outdoor amenities in the rear courtyard.  Inspiration for the design came from a number of west coast communities including Santa Barbara and the historic courthouse that anchors the downtown area.
